| New Traders On Lower Marsh Market |
New market traders have landed in Lower Marsh as the result of a one year pilot agreement with operator Westminster Artisans. The new stalls arrived on Thursday, September 1, and extra traders will continue to appear in the historic shopping street from Wednesdays to Fridays, and on occasional Saturdays, for the next 12 months. The rejuvenation of the market is aimed at improving footfall to Lower Marsh as well as increasing awareness of the overall shopping offer in the area. To date, more than 400 people have filled in an online survey about the types of stalls they would like to see on the street, and the opening of the market has provoked a flurry of activity on social networking sites about Lower Marsh. Word of mouth and future PR and promotional work will increase awareness of the revamp and street in general, but everything BID businesses can do to get the word out is encouraged – from mentioning it to customers, to displaying posters and emailing colleagues. Helen Santer, Waterloo Quarter Director of Operations, said: “A huge amount of people want the market to succeed. Existing retailers have told us they want it, and so have hundreds of residents and local workers. “Westminster Artisans have also been contacted by a number of traders from other London markets who are keen to trade here. “This is a long-term project, so all support is greatly appreciated.” ++ The market will be officially launched at an event in the street on October 6th from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
