ROBOTS, nutty professors and other scientific wonders are set to invade local streets at this year's Waterloo Carnival.

The 2011 event has been given the theme of science by fans on Facebook, and hundreds of children and volunteers have been preparing costumes in the run up to the big day on Friday, July 15.

The carnival will begin in Lower Marsh at noon before a procession begins at Johanna Primary School at 1.30pm.
