| Playwright Who Was Struck By Lightning |
A WATERLOO playwright who was temporarily paralysed when he was struck by a bolt of lightning has written a new show about his experiences. David Gilna, who works at the King’s Arms in Roupell Street, was struck by lightning in 2004 when he was 18 and working in Boston. The bolt hit his right hand and went through his body, putting him into a coma for 24 hours and melting his gold jewellery. Mr Gilna was told he might never walk again and took more than two-and-a-half years to recuperate. Now fully recovered the talented actor has written a play based on his experiences called The Gift of Lightning. With the help of local pub company Windmill Taverns, which owns The Windmill, The Ring, Jack’s Lounge and The King’s Arms, the play will be performed at the Waterloo East Theatre in Brad Street from July 19th.
