Dancing apes, tuneful drummers and mini monkeys marched through local streets at this year’s colourful Waterloo Carnival. ![]() The annual community event saw more than 300 performers set off down Lower Marsh before enjoying an outdoor disco in Millenium Green. Scores of spectators looked on as those taking part in the Jungle themed event strolled, bopped and sashayed their way down the sun drenched streets. Costumes varied from monkey masks worn by local schoolchildren to a stilt walker and animal print bodysuits. Sarah Cretch, event organiser and founder of Waterloo Carnival, said: “It was realty successful. The feedback we have had has been extremely positive. “Everybody just had an awful lot of fun and felt part of the community.” Spectators got into the party spirit, including Vauxhall MP Kate Hoey, who joined costumed monkeys in an impromptu jig during a solo performance of In The Jungle by a local schoolboy. Other highlights included a mass dance to Who Let The Dogs Out and a conga line which involved young and old alike. This year’s event, on Friday, July 16, was the seventh Waterloo Carnival, and more than 1,000 people were involved in making the day a success. The carnival was followed by an evening celebration held at The Walrus in Lower Marsh, which saw revellers enjoy performances of jungle themed songs.
