Parking

Waterloo Quarter lobbies for the introduction of parking and delivery arrangements that will improve the convenience of doing business in the area. We promote sustainable transport options wherever possible. However, cars and delivery vehicles still play an important role in the success of local shopping districts.

Following extensive consultation with local businesses and lobbying with Lambeth Council, the Waterloo Quarter BID has successfully negotiated the introduction of short-stay customer parking for the businesses based on Lower Marsh. The regulations, which currently only allow vehicles with a permit, will enable visitors to park for free in the street for up to 30 minutes, giving them the freedom to take their time and make the most of the shopping opportunities. In addition, new pay & display bays are being introduced for customers requiring a longer stay.

The new parking regulations are due to be introduced onto Lower Marsh in November 2009. The Council has agreed the scheme as a temporary measure to help support the trade of the businesses prior to the start of the Lower Marsh Regeneration Project which will see some major improvements to the appearance and access into the street.

Waterloo Quarter has also successfully lobbied for the introduction of short-stay parking bays and the removal of the Saturday bus lane restrictions on Kennington Road.
