Saturday 8th December saw the launch of a new farmers’ market on Lower Marsh. Eight traders and producers, all from within a 100 mile radius of the M25, braved the wind and rain to offer a range of produce including organic mushrooms, cheeses, meat, wine, pies and cakes. Despite the weather, the turnout was good with many visitors and local residents coming along to the street to show their support and to sample some of the goodies on offer.
Organised by Green Artisan, with support from WQBA, the aim of the farmers' market is to give a boost to Lower Marsh and, if successful, could become a regular feature on the street. Waterloo Quarter is working with Lambeth Council to enable visiting markets to operate on a regular weekly basis in the street and to agree a clear policy for dealing with market operators.
Following the positive response at the trial day, the Green Artisan farmers' market is planning to return again in the new year with even more traders. Look out for further information coming soon, or visit www.green-artisan.org.uk
