An exhibition featuring work from Banksy, alongside other well-known graffiti artists from around the world, is taking place in Leake Street, off Lower Marsh this weekend 3rd-5th May, it has been announced today. The exhibition, which is entitled the Cans Festival, looks set to attract thousands of visitors to the area over the Bank Holiday weekend, all hoping for a glimpse of one of the largest exhibitions ever to be created by the well-known anonymous artist and the first of its kind in Britain. As well as viewing the art, visitors will also be invited to join in – anyone who brings along their own stencil will be able to add to the designs which are set to be in place for the next six months.
The secret location of the exhibition remained undisclosed by the media until today, Friday 2nd May, when it was finally revealed on the exhibition website www.thecansfestival.com.
Leake Street was closed to vehicular traffic following Eurostar’s move from
Waterloo
to St Pancras. The tunnel has remained open to pedestrians until work on the Cans Festival began. The future use of the tunnel is still being considered by Eurostar and Network Rail who have committed to upgrading the lighting and security to avoid the deterioration of the space.
