Businesses in Southwark have expressed their concerns at a reduction in quality and frequency of commercial waste collections since Veolia took over the operation of this function for former Southwark Council clients on 1st April.
WQBA has raised this issue with the Council as a matter of urgency and been advised of the following measures to address the problem:
- Veolia has laid on an extra 2 collection vehicles and additional call centre staff to improve collections and customer service
Southwark Council will arrange for removal of uncollected bags causing a health risk as an interim measure
- Enforcement teams have been briefed about the problem and advised to show discretion during the next 4 weeks while the system beds in.
Southwark Council has a legal responsibility to manage the collection of domestic waste in the borough. However, there is no contractual relationship between the Council and Veolia with regard to business waste collection. Businesses experiencing issues with their waste collection in Southwark should contact Veolia customer services on 020 8394 4170. Any ongoing concerns can be referred to WQBA to raise with the Council.
Businesses are reminded that collection windows on The Cut for bagged waste are between 6-8am
