Works are well underway for the major refurbishment of The Cut, funded by Transport for London. The scheme involves pavement widening, the planting of over 40 new trees, 'de-cluttering' of pavements, new street furniture throughout and improved lighting. Scoping work is also underway to investigate an innovative new system of underground bins for business recycling in an attempt to move some of the unsightly trade refuse bins from the street. All businesses will be invited to drop-in consultation sessions on 9th and 10th July to identify their waste disposal requirements and canvass opinion on the potential underground bins.
Waterloo Quarter has been working on behalf of BID businesses via the project Steering Group to ensure that the final scheme meets the needs of local businesses and that there is minimal disruption as a result of these works. As one example of efforts to minimise the inconvenience to businesses, Thames Water agreed to bring forward its Mains Replacement Programme in the Cut to coincide with the refurbishment.
New pavements have been completed on the north side of the street, running from the Waterloo Road to beyond Young Vic, with access paths being laid to businesses' front doors to enable them to trade right through the works.
If you experience any undue inconvenience as a result of the refurbishment programme, please contact the Scheme Project Manager, Michael Semakula on 020 7299 2828. Alternatively, please contact the Waterloo Quarter office on 020 7202 6923 and we would be happy to pass on your concerns.
