We are aware that many businesses in the area are concerned by the recent influx of homeless people and street drinkers on Millennium Green. The new residents on the Green, who have reportedly been moved on from the Borough of Westminster, have been the cause of much controversy over the past couple of weeks with reports of harassment of customers, fighting with knives in the street and general drunken behaviour.
WQBA is putting pressure on the relevant organisations to try to resolve the issue. The Police are aware of the problem but are however restricted in their action due to the Green being private land (owned by the Waterloo Green Trust). They are making regular visits and have made several arrests for anti-social behaviour in an attempt to move the group along, and hope to see the desired effect soon.
The Police are keen to hear your reports of any crimes committed both on the Green and the surrounding area. The more reason they have to make arrests, the easier it will be to remove the drinkers; and the more reports they receive from the public, the more police resources are likely to be allocated to the issue. Keep them informed by calling either 999 or directly to Kennington Road station on 020 7261 1212 for non-emergency issues. |
