Hot washing the pavements of Waterloo | Print |  E-mail

Waterloo Quarter has commissioned Gum Clear to complete a hot-washing of all streets in the BID area. The project will see all the main thoroughfares including Waterloo Road, The Cut and Lower Marsh receive steamcleaning and chewing gum removal treatment on a bi-annual basis, with other streets receiving an annual deepclean.

Gum Clear, unlike other hot-washing companies, uses equipment specifically designed to remove gum from external surfaces and recycles and re-uses the water, using only 300 litres in an eight-hour shift. This compares to around 9600 litres per shift using other machines and minimises the environmental impact of the cleaning process. Their vans are equipped with super silent generators which quietly give power to 3 machines allowing an average of 1200 square metres to be cleaned in a shift.

The aim is to complete the washing of the entire Waterloo Quarter area in 10 days. Cleaning shifts will be scheduled around the needs of the businesses to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum and all businesses will be informed in advance of the work on their section.

Look out for the hot-washing team out on the streets from Monday 13th October. For more information, please contact the BID on 020 7620 1201 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
