Free CSR development support for local businesses | Print |  E-mail
A new partnership with city-based charity Heart of the City will help Waterloo businesses develop their CSR and community involvement programmes.

Heart of the City was launched in September 2000 by its joint presidents Lord Eddie George and The Lord Mayor of London . It provides free support to businesses that want to start or develop a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Building on the expertise and best practice of over 150 businesses, Heart of the City offers a uniquely collaborative programme of informal workshops, 1-1 mentoring from a CSR Manager within a company with strong CSR programmes, networking opportunities and practical resources that enable businesses to develop a bespoke programme that suits their size, sector and experience.

Waterloo Quarter has partnered with Heart of the City to invite member businesses to participate in this programme of free support, which has now been extended to the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.

There is a genuine business case for CSR – clients are increasingly assessing whether a company operates responsibly as a factor in choosing who to do business with – and it has a role to play in recruiting and retaining staff. By signing up to Heart of the City's programme, companies can make a positive impact on their community and environment whilst improving employee relations, enhancing their brand and potentially building client/supplier relationships. Heart of the City is able to offer this free support as a result of funding from the City of London Corporation and the London Development Agency.

Heart of the City’s Director Fiona Rawes commented:

"We listened carefully to businesses when we were shaping this programme and, heeding their input, have designed it to be intensely practical. No-one is better placed to advise on how best to shape successful CSR programmes than businesses that have already made progress in this area, and we are lucky enough to have the support of over 50 highly experienced City businesses. They help our Programme participants by sharing 'warts 'n' all' advice about what worked for them and what went horribly wrong!"

Businesses wishing to access this free support should contact the Heart of the City team on 020 7332 3643 referencing their involvement in the Waterloo Quarter Business Alliance.
