Lambeth Council are looking in to the possibility of setting up a Community Toilet scheme in the area, for which local businesses, such as restaurants, cafes, pubs and retailers could recieve an incentive to open up their facilities to the public during business hours without restricting this to customers.
The aim of the scheme would be to increase toilet facilities available to the public that are cleaner and safer than other standard public facilities. Similar schemes are currently running very successfully in the Borough of Richmond, with over 60 businesses signed up, as well as in Waltham Forest and Camden.
How do businesses benefit? Besides the annual incentive based on the size and number of conveniences offered by the organisation, businesses can also benefit by attracting members of the public into their premises who wouldn’t normally be customers, therefore increasing footfall and potential sales – spending a penny in more ways than one!
If you think that the scheme is something that your business could be interested in participating in or you have any other thoughts or feedback, please let us know by emailing
