Describe the business: “We represent about 40 artists, whose work ranges from childrens’ book illustration to photorealistic and digital images. Artist Partners was very much a “MAD MEN” model when it began life 60 years ago, with gatherings orchestrated at the Studio Club in Soho, with all the top billing Illustrators, Creative Directors and Art Buyers involved.” Have you done anything we’d recognise? “Our artists’ have been responsible for hugely iconic images – from Alfred Hitchcock posters to classic childrens picture books to posters for the English National Opera and Young Vic.” What type of projects does Artist Partners work on? “We’ve worked on everything from whole ranges of covers for popular books to album covers, to animation, to private portraits to illustrations in Private Eye.” How many book covers do you do a year? “We are currently working on 30–40 a month. Recently we have worked on Just William and rebranding the Artemis Fowl books. We have worked for every top author there is in the mass market fiction circuit to all the well known classics.” What are you most proud of? “We have a Clio award in the office for an illustrative campaign for British Gas, but our artists are also regularly being nominated for and win several other industry awards.” What’s next for Artist Partners: “The business has its 60th birthday this year, so we will have a big party for that. We are still keen to diversify our work even further into more film posters and computer games covers – we recently took on a CAD (computer aided design) specialist for interiors and architectural work, while continuing to support emerging and established talent.
