| Business Profile - Waterloo East Theatre |
The business: Waterloo East Theatre. Address: Brad Street, London, SE1 8TG, 020 7928 0060. The boss: Owner and artistic director Gerald Armin. When did the business open? “September 2nd. We had signed the lease on the second of March and we started work on March 8th. It was a rollercoaster time but an incredibly satisfying achievement to open, and was helped extremely by my builders, who were just incredible.” What is the best thing about the business? “Seeing the theatre open and seeing people buying tickets and walking out having had a lovely evening at the theatre.” How would you describe the theatre? “We have an eclectic mix of entertainment. The press has already described us as a chic new venue, a handsomely converted railway arch and as having the most comfortable seats in an off-West End theatre.” How many hours a week do you work? “10am to 11pm seven days a week.” What are your businesses principles? "This theatre is there for everybody in the community. We have a policy that every show that comes in has to have one ‘pay what you can’ night to make theatre affordable for all.” What are your plans for the future? “We want to continue to develop the programme of events here. We also want to introduce a volunteer programme and open a friends scheme so the local community, who have been incredibly supportive, can feel part of the theatre.” ++ Any employees at BID member businesses can go to a Waterloo East Theatre show for the concessionary rate.
