Off licences within the South Bank and Waterloo area are to be reminded not to sell alcohol to people who are already intoxicated.
Local people have raised concerns about a number of street drinkers who use the area, including some who occasionally cause a nuisance by indulging in anti-social behaviour.
Police, Lambeth Licensing Authority and Lambeth Community Safety Team have teamed up to produce a letter which will remind licensees they will face enforcement action if they do not comply with licence conditions and two statutory objectives – preventing crime and disorder and preventing public nuisance.
The licensees will also be told not to sell alcoholic drinks to those who have already had enough, or to sell to people buying on behalf of intoxicated people.
The letter will be distributed by hand later this month.
