Transport for London (TfL), on behalf of the Mayor of London, has begun a consultation on changes to the Congestion Charging scheme. This statutory consultation will close on 2 August 2010.

Subject to public consultation, variations will be made including the following:

  • The removal of the Western Extension zone of the scheme
  • The introduction of Congestion Charging Auto Pay accounts to make payment simpler
  • Increase of the daily Congestion Charge to £9 with CC Auto Pay or £10 for non-account holders (and £12 for Pay Next Day)
  • The removal of the 100% alternative fuel discount
  • The introduction of a new 100% discount for greener cars

Full details on the consultation and the proposed variations will shortly be available at www.cclondon.com

Following consultation, TfL will report to the Mayor, who will make a decision on whether or not to confirm the Variation Orders, with or without modifications.

Should the Mayor decide to proceed with the removal of the Western Extension zone, it would cease to operate at the end of the charging day on 24 December 2010. The other changes would come into effect on 4 January 2011 (no charge is payable from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day inclusive). TfL would mount an information campaign to ensure that drivers are made aware of the changes.
