'forest' Installation

Local workers and residents gathered in Emma Cons Gardens on Thursday the 3rd December to witness the opening of the ‘forest’ installation. Julian Blake, one of the founding trustees of Trees for Cities had the honour of cutting the recycled newspaper paper chain to declare it open and the tree lights were lit inside the space. Children from Johanna Primary School, Friars Primary Foundation School and Blackfriars Settlement Playspace made beautiful tree decorations in workshops facilitated by Bankside Open Spaces Trust.

These were displayed within the installation and there was a chance for the public to make their own and hang themon the trees.

The aim of the ‘forest’ installation is to brighten up Emma Cons Gardens through the winter months, while at the same time highlighting the issues of sustainability and deforestation. Forest will be in-situ until the end of January. We recommend you take a stroll through it, to enjoy the ‘endless forest’ and think about your own use of natural resources.

The production of ‘Forest’ has been supported by many organisations and individuals, both through cash sponsorship, donation of tools and materials, professional support and other in-kind advice and activity. Waterloo Quarter would like to thank again these people for making it possible. For more information on the ‘forest’, visit www.waterlooquarter.org/forest.
