| Second Licensing Forum takes place in May |
The Wellington pub on Waterloo Road recently hosted the second licensing forum for the Bishops ward area, which was another great success.
The forum is led by local licensees who take turns to host and Chair the meeting, which was created in order to give them a formal voice with which to address their concerns and solve the problems which face them day to day. As well as local licensees, the meeting is attended by representatives of the local police, Lambeth Council and other agencies working in the area. This means that issues can be addressed directly by those who are able to help tackle them.
The meeting is facilitated by Waterloo Quarter in partnership with other local groups, but the agenda is set by licensees themselves. At the last meeting the licensees raised concerns about anti-social behaviour from street drinkers and a lack of a police presence in the area. As a result, the local Police have agreed to undertake frequent visits to all licensed premises every week. Also, to enable the pubs to deal better with football related anti-social behaviour, the Police
will be inviting their Millwall Intelligence Officer to future meetings. The licensees were also keen on the introduction of a radiolink scheme, which will provide them all with a radio which will have a direct link to the police and will enable them to keep each other informed of any issues taking place in the area.
The forum is keen for the membership to continue expanding, and to include licensees from Southwark, so if you are a licensed premises and would like to attend, please contact Katie Lindsay on 020 7620 1309 or klindsay@waterlooquarter.org.
