Local Recruitment in Waterloo
Employing from your local area can have great benefits for business. Staff that live nearby often have the flexibility to work out-of-hours and overtime and can never claim delays on the tube as a reason for turning up late to work! Employing local people that may have been out of work for some time and supporting them to gain the training and skills required to do the job can also inspire great loyalty in your business and increase staff retention. There are a number of schemes and support services available for Waterloo Quarter BID businesses that can help you gain access to the bank of skilled potential employees in the Waterloo area. The Waterloo Job Shop at 114-118 Lower Marsh offers training and 'suitability screening' to local candidates, helping them to become interview-ready and linking them up with local job opportunities. They can shortlist candidates for any role you may have vacant, or even undertake the interview process for you. The Job Shop's service is FREE of charge and can be tailored to suit your needs - and there is no obligation to offer an interview to any shortlisted candidates. They also offer support with apprenticeships and work experience opportunities. Please contact Anita Konczak at South Bank Employers' Group anita.konczak@southbanklondon.com or 020 7202 6900.
Southwark and Lambeth Councils are also inviting businesses to come on board with the Future Jobs Fund a new Government initiative to create new jobs as a measure to combat the economic downturn. Participating businesses can claim up to £6,500 towards the salary costs for a newly created job of a minimum of 25 hours a week. The job must be paid at least the minimum wage or industry standard wage and be offered to people currently on Job Seekers Allowance. Training support will also be offered to the employee to help them gain an industry recognised qualification to help them access employment when they leave their position. This is an extremely cost-effective way of employing a new member of staff and simultaneously supporting an unemployed person back into work. Please contact Helen Santer at Waterloo Quarter BID to register your interest or request more information at hsanter@waterlooquarter.org. The next funding application will be made at the end of July so please get in touch at the earliest opportunity.
