Local businesses and residents turned out on Lower Marsh on 24th July to pay their respects to Dave Squires, the popular street cleaner who had swept Lower Marsh for over a decade, before sadly dying after a long battle with illness. The funeral cortege paused briefly on Lower Marsh to allow local people to say farewell to a popular character, who was known to come to the street on his day off to make sure that it was still looking spick and span.
Dave's unfailing good humour and willingness to help made him one of Waterloo's biggest assets and he will be sorely missed.
