Electrical Vehicle Charging Points
In a bid to improve air quality in the capital and reduce carbon emissions from road vehicles, the Mayor of London aims to make the city the ‘electric vehicle capital of Europe’. Road transport is responsible for large proportions of emissions of CO2 and other pollutants such as nitrogen oxides. Electric Vehicles don’t emit any of these pollutants and are very well suited to cities where cars are often idling for long periods in heavy traffic.
An increasing number of businesses are switching to electric vehicles to improve their environmental credentials, but they also make good business sense as they can be parked for free and are not subject to the congestion charge.
In order to facilitate the use of electric vehicles more widely, the Mayor has a target of introducing 25,000 electric vehicle charging points (EVCP) by 2015 and of these, 2,500 will be on street or in car parks. The charging points are very small and resemble a slim bollard so will have minimal impact in terms of street clutter.   At the moment, boroughs are looking for suitable locations across London; these would have high visibility and be close to local users. We would like to hear from our businesses to see if electric vehicle charging points would be useful for them and if they would like to see them in Waterloo. If this is something your business would be interested in, then please contact Katie Lindsay klindsay@waterlooquarter.org.
