Planning Applications in BID area
Waterloo Quarter monitors the local planning registers for applications in the BID area and responds accordingly on behalf of the businesses in the BID. Waterloo Quarter has recently responded to the following applications:

Phone Kiosk - Waterloo Road
BT’s original planning application to put a phone kiosk in Waterloo Road was objected by Waterloo Quarter and refused by Lambeth on the basis that it would contribute to street clutter and encourages crime.  BT have made changes to their initial application to try to combat these problems however WQ do not believe that the changes made would be sufficient and opposed. Permission was not granted.

Cycle Docking Stations
TFL have initiated a public bicycle sharing scheme for short journeys in and around central London. A number of cycle docking stations have been proposed in the BID area. In principal, the BID is supportive of the aims of the cycle hire scheme; however some of the planned locations have been contentious.
  • Outside 80-86The Cut
WQ objected this particular location for a docking station for the main reason that the structure would reduce the available footway for pedestrians, in a very busy location where the footfall is at least moderate and high at peak times. This application was refused due to the impediment on pedestrian movement.

  • Public Pavement Adjacent To Lambeth North Underground Station, Baylis Road
The BID considered this location suitable for a cycle docking station so no action was taken. The application was permitted.

  • Car Park Adjacent To Cubana Lower Marsh
WQ expressed concerns over the location of this docking station as this particular site has been earmarked for high quality public realm improvement works incorporating a new public open space, as part of the Lower Marsh Regeneration Project. The BID requested assurance that it would not impede its progress and be properly integrated into the new designs. Permission was granted for this site.
