The Big Issue
Members of the public have expressed concerns about a number of people who are pretending to be Big Issue vendors in the Waterloo area. These people are acting illegally and without the Big Issue’s authorisation.

The Big Issue works with homeless and vulnerably housed people who have been authorised up to sell the paper. They have a strict policy on how the magazine can be sold. All legitimate vendors (recognisable by a badge with their photograph, unique badge number and holographic security strip) have signed an agreement that they will abide by The Big Issue's Code of Conduct.

Vendors may not approach people away from the pitch, and they are not allowed to attempt to sell in cafes, bars or on other private premises. Any legitimate vendor reported doing so could face a suspension or dismissal.
If anyone tries to sell The Big Issue magazine on your premises, and they are wearing a badge, if possible please take a note of the number report it to The Big Issue on 020 7526 3444, stating the time and date of the incident, the badge number and a brief description of the vendor. If the vendor is not wearing a badge, The Big Issue are unlikely to come into contact with them. The only action they can take with beggars like these is to work closely with the police to discourage them, so any information about their behaviour will be useful.
By raising awareness The Big Issue can improve the chances of their legitimate vendors who are working to improve their lives. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Paul Joseph or a member of the Big Issue Outreach Team on 020 7526 3445 or at paul.joseph@bigissue.com.
