| 111 Westminster Bridge Road redevelopment |
Plans
have been submitted to Lambeth Council to redevelop the old Costain
building at 111 Westminster Bridge Road into a scheme that mixes
serviced offices and an apart-hotel, a type of hotel accommodation for
short and medium term stays, along with a publicly accessible
restaurant and cafe-bar.The
proposed building will be ten storeys high to the rear of the site and
seven storeys high on Westminster Bridge Road to match the height of
adjoining buildings. The serviced offices will be aimed at small
businesses and will be located on the first floor.
The
building has designed to be environmentally sustainable, with on-site
renewable energy sources and recycling facilities provided on site.
Waterloo
Quarter will be supporting these proposals, as it is believed that
creating an active frontage at street level will help increase footfall
in the area, supporting local businesses in the process. Apart-hotel
guests, whose stay in the area will tend to be longer than those at
typical hotels, will also provide additional customers for local
businesses - including services as well as retailers.
Further information on the status of the application and how to respond is available at www.lambeth.gov.uk on the planning applications database.
