| New easyHotel on Westminster Bridge Road |
|
A new easyHotel has been granted planning permission by Lambeth Council in the former Lambeth Building Society headquarters, on the corner of Baylis Road and Westminster Bridge Road.
The site, which has been empty for several years, will consist of a 78-bedroom hotel plus coffee shop and internet café. It is hoped that the hotel will not only promote vibrancy through increased custom to the shops, cafes, bars and services in the area, but will also improve the visual appearance for visitors arriving to Lambeth North tube station.
As part of the planning application the easyHotel developers have agreed to contribute £50,000 to fund pedestrian improvements on Lower Marsh, Westminster Bridge Road and Frazier Street as it is considered that the proposed development will significantly increase the number of pedestrians coming to and from Waterloo Station. The total amount of Section 106 funding agreed as part of the scheme is £145,000, which has been allocated to improvements to local facilities such as parks and open spaces, employment and training, libraries etc.
