New way-finding programme to be piloted in Waterloo

The South Bank and Bankside area, including Waterloo, have been selected as a pilot area for Transport for London's new pedestrian wayfinding scheme.

The Legible London scheme, which involves new distinctive on-street mapping systems to make it easier for pedestrians to navigate the streets of London, aims to introduce pilot signage to the area by Autumn 2009, with a view to expanding the full project across the rest of central London and the Olympic area before 2012.

Waterloo Quarter BID will be working with local partners South Bank Employers' Group, who prepared a feasibility report for Transport for London exploring the value of piloting the system in the local area, in partnership with Lambeth Council and will be project managing the scheme in the area. The area is one of three in London piloting the scheme – the others being Bloomsbury, Covent Garden & Holborn, and Richmond & Twickenham.
