Old Vic Junction and pedestrian crossings
Preliminary works have begun to the 'Emma Cons junction' - the crossroads by the Old Vic Theatre - to enable the complete re-modelling of the junction and crossing points early in the New Year. You may have seen the markings on the pavements indicating the location of underground services.

As reported in the October edition of the Voice, the scheme will involve 'straight-over' crossings, rather than the current cattle-pen style barriers which tend to encourage people to cross an already unsafe junction at inappropriate crossing points. There will also be a 'raised table' outside the Old Vic as an additional traffic calming measure and higher quality materials to match those on the recently redeveloped Cut.

The preliminary ducting works are taking place during late November and early December and are not anticipated to be too disruptive to passers-by. The works will be finished prior to Christmas to ensure businesses are not impeded. All businesses will receive a letter with illustrations from Lambeth Council with details of the main works scheduled to commence after Christmas. Look out for this in the post over the coming weeks.
