Old Vic Junction Improvements
The long-awaited improvements to the junction outside the Old Vic have finally got the go-ahead after concerted lobbying efforts by Waterloo Quarter and other local partners.

The scheme will involve 'straight-over' crossings, rather than the current cattle-pen style barriers which tend to encourage people to cross an already unsafe junction at inappropriate crossing points. There will also be a 'raised table' outside the Old Vic as an additional traffic calming measure.

Transport for London has now approved Lambeth Council's modelling for the traffic lights cycle and a work programme has been drawn up. Some preliminary ducting works will take place before Christmas, but the main works will be delivered in the new year to avoid disruption to businesses during the festive period.

Dagmar Walz, General Manager from The Old Vic Theatre Trust, said: 'The improvement works have been a long time coming, but we are delighted that the scheme has got the go-ahead. This will make a massive improvement to the area, not to mention the safety of pedestrians and visitors to the theatre. It will also link up the area, which is currently very disjointed by the Waterloo Road, making it easier to access local shops and services.'
