| The Cut refuse collection |
|
As the extensive refurbishment of The Cut comes to an end, the future operation of the street is being looked at to make the most of the development. As part of the project and in direct response to public consultations, the way in which business waste is collected has been reviewed to ensure the refuse left on The Cut does not detract from the recent improvements.
Southwark and Lambeth Councils are introducing a joint initiative, commencing from 18 February 2008, to implement a new policy for collecting business waste on The Cut.
The new policy involves:
If your business waste needs to be collected at another time of the day, the bin or sack is not permitted to be left out on the street. It must either be brought out to or collected by the contractor direct from your premises, only when the collection vehicle arrives.
![]() This policy relates to all trading days, including weekends and bank holidays. The new system aims to avoid the use of large, unsightly wheelie bins on the street and prevents the pile up of business waste on the pavement throughout the day. If your business is found to be putting refuse out on the street at the wrong time, enforcement officers will give you a warning. Persistent offenders could be fined.
Residents living in flats above shops on The Cut will also be asked to place their refuse on the nearest marker to their property. For further information about the new scheme, please get in touch with the relevant Council:
