Mayor promotes regeneration of Waterloo
Ken Livingstone has published the Waterloo Opportunity Area planning framework for the sustainable regeneration of the area. This includes proposals for the development of new commercial and residential buildings over Waterloo station, alongside major public realm and transport improvements.

Projects of particular interest to WQBA businesses are the creation of a new City Square at the Waterloo Road IMAX roundabout, improvements to the accessibility of the station and the inclusion of an 'area based scheme' that would facilitate major environmental and streetscape improvements for Lower Marsh and its surrounds. This would include Lower Marsh itself, the Westminster Bridge Road tunnel, the Lambeth North tube junction, the junction of Lower Marsh and Leake Street and a plaza at the east end of Lower Marsh.

An implementation group has been set up to aid the momentum of projects set out in the Framework. This includes representatives from the Greater London Authority, the London Development Agency, Transport for London, Lambeth Council, Network Rail and the South Bank Employers' Group. WQBA will be inputting into projects of relevance to the BID as they develop and working with businesses to ensure their views are represented. The proposed area-based scheme in particular represents a major opportunity for securing funding to deliver the major streetscape improvements that the area so urgently requires.
