New Subsidised Food Waste Collections

A Waterloo Quarter pilot food waste collection scheme saw 31 tonnes of food and green waste turned into compost.

Waterloo Quarter ran the pilot for nine months until September this year.

The pilot saw five food businesses and five offices recycle their food waste, and the scheme was so popular Waterloo Quarter is continuing to offer food and green waste collections at a subsidised rate (Waterloo Quarter will pay 20 per cent of the costs).

Food waste is a big problem for the environment. The majority of businesses dispose of it in landfill which creates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.
